Introducing the Carnival of Snowflakes!

Apr 17, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

There was some interest when I posted the query about having a Carnival of Snowflakes, so I went ahead and created one.  The first Carnival of Snowflakes will be hosted here at Snowflake Revolution next Thursday, April 24th!  After that, it will travel to volunteer blogs every Thursday - you can volunteer to be a future host by sending an email to join at snowflakerevolution dot com.

The host page is linked in the header of this blog or you can find it by clicking here, and posts can be entered through this blogcarnival link.  Post questions or comments and I will see you next Thursday with your snowflaking posts!

Interest in a Carnival of Snowflakes?

Apr 10, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

When I started this network I mentioned that one of my possible future plans was to have a Carnival of Snowflakes, and Shanti reminded me of that fact by asking about the possibility of a carnival in her latest comment.

I hadn’t gone forward with the idea yet because I wasn’t sure that there was interest in a carnival, but I want to ask now - would people be interested in a Carnival of Snowflakes that traveled to different members blogs (volunteers of course)?  The carnival would be to share recent successes, setbacks, snowflake ideas, and any other snowflaking-related information published recently on your blog.  I would host the first one here to kick it off, and then when it travels to other blogs I would write a little roundup/highlight of the carnival here every Thursday.

If there is enough interest, I will set it up through blog carnival and kick it off in the next few weeks.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think!  Yays and nays are both welcome!

PS:  I also have a once weekly round-up idea for this blog in the works of members’ recent successes in quick link form, but I haven’t had the time to set everything up in my RSS reader to track it completely yet.  That plan might take me a little while longer.  :)

Spreading the Snowflaking Love and Interviews

Apr 7, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

The final round of the Personal Finance March Madness competition at Free Money Finance started on Saturday, and my Snowflaking: A Primer post made it to the finals!  thanks for all the votes and if you would like to go vote in the comments of the competition post for “Snowflaking” I would appreciate it!  The competition is very very close and every vote counts!

What I have loved about this round is all the people who in the comments have mentioned how snowflaking has personally helped them and their financial goals.  I love that my unbridled enthusiasm for the snowflaking concept has infected so many people.  Win or lose, I can’t beat that feeling.

The proceeds of the contest go to charity and I am playing for The Make A Wish Foundation, so if my post wins $500 goes to them.  Even if it doesn’t win, second place is $250 so not too bad!

Also, on another topic, I’ve sent out a lot of the Snowflake Spotlight interviews by request but I haven’t gotten very many back, so I didn’t run an interview this past week.  If you would like to be interviewed, drop me a line and I will send you the questionsIt’s your chance to publicize your blog and your snowflaking methods!

Thanks for being a part of the ever-growing snowflaking movement!

New Feature: Member Spotlights

Mar 14, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

Starting in a few weeks, I want to start doing member spotlight posts on Fridays.  This would involve any interested members filling out a short interview by email, and then on Friday I would pick one to turn into an interview here and post the answers.

I am still working on the list of interview questions so I am not sure if it will start next Friday but definitely by April it will be in full swing.  If you are interested in being spotlighted as a member, please send me an email through the Join Contact Page and I will add your name to the list and send out the interview questions as soon as they are completed.

In other business, tomorrow morning my Snowflaking Primer post will be in the Sweet 16 round of March Madness at Free Money Finance facing off against some very tough competition from The Simple Dollar.  Consider spreading snowflaking awareness and hopping on over to vote for my post. :)  The winner receives $500 for the charity of their choice, mine is the Make A Wish Foundation.  I’ll post another short reminder this weekend with a link to the actual voting post once it is live.  :)

Thanks For the Votes!

Thanks to everyone who headed over to Free Money Finance this weekend and voted for Snowflaking: A Primer!  We won our game in round two!  Go snowflaking!

Next weekend in round three we’ll be facing off against a post from The Simple Dollar, so it’s an uphill battle but I believe in the power of snowflaking (and my post ;) ).  The $500 prize for the best post of the last year goes to charity - I am playing for the Make A Wish Foundation.  Fourth round, here we come (I hope)!

If you’re not yet a part of the snowflaking movement and interested in joining the Snowflake Revolution, make sure to check out the join page!   We’re growing every day!  Keep watch on this space for a list of snowflaking resources as well as weekly snowflaking tips highlighted from our member blogs coming very soon!  Let’s all reduce our debt and increase our savings!

Snowflaking Blogroll Updates

Mar 7, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

I have changed the blogroll slightly for the time being. For some reason, Blogrolling, the service that administers the blogroll, did not detect when some of the members updated their sites (but did others). So some of the members were always at the bottom of the blogroll. That’s not very fair, so I’ve set the blogroll to populate the list in a random order every time it is reloaded. If I can figure out the problems with the update issue and fix it, I will go back to that method but for now, it will just be random. :)

On the topic of the blogroll, if you have chosen to put that on your site, I have inserted a link within the blogroll (and marked it with ***) inviting people to join the revolution, so no other link to the Snowflake Revolution is needed as an add-on. This hopefully will make things easier for everyone! :)

If you’ve chosen to display the badge instead, please have it point to the Join page. If you need help doing that, let me know. I would prefer that members upload the badge to their own server to display so that it is not using the Revolution’s bandwidth, but if for some reason you can’t do that, let me know and you can display the one from this server. :)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me: join at snowflakerevolution dot com. I will be emailing all the members in the next week or so as well just to check in and welcome everyone personally. If you haven’t yet joined the revolution, and you are a snowflaker, what are you waiting for? Join today!

Come back tomorrow for a way you can help publicize snowflaking with just one little vote… :)

Thanks for Joining the Snowflake Revolution!

Mar 2, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

We now have 37 members of the Snowflake Revolution (and counting!) and have been popping up all over the personal finance blogosphere and beyond! Thanks for joining and congratulations on becoming a snowflaker. :)

If you are visiting for the first time and haven’t joined yet, but blog about snowflaking, make sure to click on the join link and become a part of the revolution. If you already have joined, thanks! Make sure to add either the badge from the right-hand column here or the snowflaking blogroll to your website to help spread the word and publicize the movement. The code for the blogroll can be found on the join page.

Also, if you have some snowflaking posts that you would like to be a part of the snowflaking resources page that I am working on for this site, please email them to join@snowflakerevolution.com - many people sent snowflake links to me when they joined, but if you did not it is not too late!

Thanks again for being part of the revolution and keep watch on this page (you can subscribe to the RSS feed to get the updates) for more information and future snowflaking posts! Vive la Revolution!

Welcome to The Snowflake Revolution

Feb 17, 2008 Author: paidtwice | Filed under: Business

Ever since I started talking about the concept of snowflaking on my main blog, I’ve Paid For This Twice Already…, I’ve seen more and more people either adopting the concept for themselves or realizing they’ve already been doing it without having a name for it. So I decided to create a central location where I could gather links to all the different snowflakers out there.

This project is still in its infancy. Right now, there is a blogroll you can join by filling out the contact form here and as time goes on, I will be featuring snowflaking information and posts here from my blog as well as member blogs, and also starting a RSS Feed Network comprised of member blogs. In fact, there may even be a Snowflaking Carnival in the future.

Join the Revolution today, and become a part of the snowflaking movement. We’re growing!
